Hoeganaes Corporation - A World Leader in the Production of Ferrous Powders
6th Apr, 2010
Hoeganaes Corporation, a world leader in the production of ferrous powders, has been a driving force within the global powder metallurgy industry’s growth for more than 50 years. The company has fueled that growth with successive waves of technological advancements that have expanded the use of metal powders for a wide variety of applications.
Through the continuing support of its customers, the company has led the industry in developing products and processes that allow them to produce parts with more complex geometries, higher densities, and improved dynamic properties.
The company, with manufacturing plants in the United States, Germany, Romania, and China to meet customers’ needs worldwide, continues to invest in programs that expand its product capacity while improving metal powder manufacturing. This ensures that a quality raw materials supply will be readily available well in advance of industry demand.
Anticipating customer needs around the world
Hoeganaes invests heavily in production expansion programs to guarantee a global supply of ferrous metal powders ahead of market demand. For example, the company invested over $100 million in its Gallatin, Tennessee, facility during the 1990’s---including the addition of nine annealing furnaces. Now, with a total of 12 annealing lines, Gallatin is the world’s largest producer of atomized ferrous metal powders. The company has the capability to manufacture 340,000 metric tons of iron and steel powders—approximately seven times its capacity in 1980.
Today, Hoeganaes Corporation is represented on every industrialized continent. In addition to its manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe and Asia, the company has highly experienced technical and marketing staffs serving those areas as well as South America and the Pacific Rim.
Advanced products and processes fuel industry growth
PM’s dramatic growth can be traced to the introduction of Hoeganaes’ ANCORBOND® process in 1989 that allows for engineered binder-treated, press-ready premixes. Significant new products produced by this technology enable fabricators to manufacture parts with higher densities, greater strength, enhanced dimensional stability, and with more complex geometries than ever before.
Hoeganaes is deeply engaged in multiple R and D projects to find ways to lower costs, improve mechanical properties, and to continually make P/M processes more competitive.
The company, which has pioneered nearly all ferrous powder innovations, is uniquely qualified to continue its leadership role. Hoeganaes' Technical Center in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, is one of the industry's most complete research and development facilities.
The company’s fundamental business philosophy is based on looking into the future and setting broad goals. This open-ended philosophy does not restrict the engineering staff, but permits it to absorb bright ideas and channel them into development programs at all stages. The technical staff is comprised of veteran researchers and younger engineers and scientists, offering a good balance of experience and bright, new ideas.
