The University of Exeter, in collaboration with EADS UK Ltd, have officially opened their ‘Centre for additive Layer Manufacturing’ (CALM) based at the University’s campus in the UK.

CALM received a £2.6M investment from the European Regional Development Fund and is a key part of the University’s Science Strategy – a strategic investment of over £230m across the sciences. The centre will work with businesses across the UK to help them understand and adopt additive manufacturing and will also work on long term research and development projects in this exciting area of innovative manufacturing.

The centre has already established an impressive array of leading-edge machinery including 3D printing, Laser Sintering, Laser Melting, and deposition/extrusion processes. They are able to process a range of metal and polymer materials.

CALM also works closely with Exeter Advanced Technologies (X-AT) at the University of Exeter, and has access to a wide range of research grade analytical equipment including mechanical testing, microscopy, and thermal analysis.

For more information about the CALM centre and how to use its facilities visit www.exeter.ac.uk/calm
