Powder Metallurgy researcher named in Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) 2015 Class of Fellows

The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) has announced its 2015 Class of Fellows. The award recognises TMS members for their outstanding contributions to the practice of metallurgy, materials science, and technology.

Included in this year’s Class of Fellows is Iver Anderson, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Senior Metallurgist at Ames Laboratory Institute for Physical Science and Technology at Iowa State University Iowa State University, USA. Anderson is a distinguished researcher with numerous awards and recognition for his work in Powder Metallurgy and other material sciences.

TMS stated that Anderson was selected for the award primarily for his work on the development of lead-free solder, now used in all electronic devices. Also cited were seminal contributions to gas atomisation of metallic and polymeric materials, Powder Metallurgy technology and the rapid solidification processing of a wide variety of materials.

Other recipients of the 2015 Class of Fellows award include Surya Kalidindi, Georgia Institute of Technology, David Matlock, Colorado School of Mines, Michael Mills, Ohio State University, Christopher Schuh, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Barry Welch, University of Auckland and Welbank Consulting Ltd.
