GKN Sinter Metals recently presented a series of lectures at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University, Germany, where it discussed Powder Metallurgy technology, looked at how parts are created and what applications are suited. The aim of the course was to not only bring students closer to Powder Metallurgy, but also to the working environment of a global automotive supplier.

Antonio Casellas, Vice President GKN Sinter Metals Global Product Management, one of the lecturers and co-instigator, stated, “The Powder Metallurgy process is not taught in any technical or traditional university and there are no interesting and up-to-date publications about it. For this reason we wanted to tackle it, and bring students closer to this innovative technology.”

The series of lectures ended on June 24 with a visit to the GKN Sinter Metals plant in Bonn. Visitors were given an overview of the facility by the Plant Manager Matthias Voss, followed by a tour of production facilities. The visit gave students the opportunity to experience how the production of sintered components happens in practice. There was also the chance to exchange views in the relaxed atmosphere of the company’s Powder Metallurgy Innovation Showroom with the lecturers, senior managers in the company and HR management.

GKN Sinter Metals stated that it intends to co-operate with Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University again next year, as well as possibly offering individual modules to other universities and colleges.
